Electroenergetic System Development Project

Implementation Period: 2020-2024

Project Value: 61 million euros, funded by the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank

Project Objective: to increase the capacity and improve the reliability of the electric power transportation system in the Republic of Moldova.

"Moldelectrica" State Enterprise and other stakeholders in the energy sector will benefit from improved operational efficiency and reduced losses in the transportation process through more efficient systems.

Components of the Project:

  • Construction of Overhead Power Lines (OPL) Vulcănești-Chișinău, approximately 158 km of high-voltage power line with a single circuit (400 kV), and Bălți-Suceava, with a length of 138 km (400 kV).
  • Modernization and expansion of Chișinău (330 kV), Vulcănești (400 kV), and Bălți (330 kV) power stations.
  • Modernization of the existing monitoring, control, and data acquisition/energy management system (SCADA/EMS).
  • Modernization of the electricity accounting system.
  • Construction of a new building for the "Moldelectrica" State Enterprise, including a Dispatch Center (DC).
  • Financial auditing services for "Moldelectrica" State Enterprise and the project.

Implementer: Ministry of Energy through the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE)

Energy Security of the Republic of Moldova (MESA)

Implementation Period: 2022-2026

Project Value: 59.8 million dollars, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

Project Objectives: to improve the physical and market integration of the energy system of the Republic of Moldova into the European system, increase the share of integrated renewable energy on the local market.

Components of the Project:

  • Acquisition of emergency generators or replacement of non-functional units for essential institutions (hospitals, water supply and heating companies).
  • Implementation of modern technologies: storage of renewable energy using batteries, complete cybersecurity equipment with a firewall allowing immediate data exchange for electricity exchanges with Romania.
  • Procurement of equipment for line maintenance and real-time system monitoring to enhance operational control.
  • Diversification of energy supplies at competitive prices and development of local production.
  • Strengthening the capacity of the Energy Efficiency Agency, promoting more efficient consumption to lower costs.
